My 9/11 Story A Decade After

A video summary of the day that September Morning 10 years ago in New York.

I was a 10 year old 5th grader in Elementary School and it had been a year and a half since I had immigrated to the United States, the safest Country in the World in my eyes.

When the first plane hit the  World Trade Center's North Tower at 8:46 am, I was in my Gym class with my fellow classmates happily playing basketball and jumping rope. Shortly after; within 15 minutes of gym class my 5th grade teacher came and took us out of Gym Class. Mrs. B informed the class that our parents had been notified to come and pick us up, but she did not tell us what was going on. As we were walking through the hallways I noticed that the school was practically empty and eerily quiet. Through the windows of the classroom doors, all I could see was empty classrooms and teachers glued to their T.V. sets. Little did I know at the time, that America my new home, was under attack by terrorists who hijacked two passenger planes and crashed them into two tall buildings like they were toys.

When I got home I saw what the whole of America and the World was witnessing on CNN. At the time I thought I was watching the Second plane hitting the South Tower Live, but later on I learned that it was a repeat of the morning images.

Over time as I grew up like many of my classmates, I changed as person. I realized that at 10 even though I was young and I did not live in New York, the events of that day forever changed my life. I became a dedicated volunteer and in High School joined the Key Club to help out my community, I was part of the local Memorial Day Parade's in Middle School, and I decided that I wanted to have a meaningful career that could change the World for the better.

9/11 changed my perspective on life and my future.

As the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 comes and goes. It is very important to always remember the individual who died in the attacks that beautiful Tuesday Morning. We should also honor the many ordinary people and heroic first responders who save so many lives. I will never forget the bold acts of bravery and patriotism of those that risked their lives that day in the front lines. I join many others to day and always both in the United States and around the world in remembering those who died in the attacks', sharing the grief of so many families who lost loved ones, and honoring the heroic efforts of those who served in America's time of need. God Bless America and may the Flag fly high all the way to the sky.
